Egg Harbor Township Native Wins Award in Regional Business Competition

2014 Apr 2

Shelby Treadwell, a Paul Smith's College student majoring in business management and entrepreneurial studies, took third place in the energy/sustainability category of the Upstate New York Regional Business Plan competition held at Plattsburgh State University College on Saturday, March 29.

Treadwell won the award, and a $500 prize, by pitching her idea for Northern Suds, an Adirondack-based business that creates environmentally neutral laundry detergent.

Treadwell began the business as a senior capstone project last semester. She identified her distribution channels, designed and packaged the product, field tested it and began sales in January. Treadwell plans to use the award to scale up production of the detergent and expand into new product areas including disinfectants, borax-free detergents and air fresheners.
