Morgan Cuozzo Wins Scholarship at Paul Smith's College Cooking Competition

2011 Mar 9

Morgan Cuozzo, a student at York High School, won a seven thousand dollar scholarship to Paul Smith's College after placing first in a culinary competition on campus.

Morgan, of Piffard, competed with 16 other budding chefs at the 14th annual Paul Smith's College Cooking for Scholarships competition, which was held on Saturday, March 5.

Contestants were presented with the same ingredients and given three and a half hours to plan a menu and prepare a meal using those items. Competitors were also required to demonstrate skills in tasks such as cutting vegetables and preparing sauces, and complete a brief written exam.

More than $30,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded at the event, which was judged by a panel of Paul Smith's faculty chefs. Scholarships are renewable for up to four years.

The competitors prepared their food at the Statler Foundation Culinary Training Facility on the Paul Smith's campus. That building includes seven culinary laboratories and is also home to the Wally Ganzi Jr. Restaurant Training Center, which is modeled after the renowned Palm restaurant chain of steak houses.
